Kings Valley Stables is an approved
Scout Badge Facility
 
Earn a horsemanship badge the fun way! Students who are girl or boy scouts, cubs, or brownies can do their badge tests at Kings Valley Stables during their normal lesson times, and work at the stables towards their Horse Expert badge.  Schedule the test for $10 whenever you're ready.
 
BADGE OVERVIEW PROGRAM:  In a two-hour course, scouts will learn about horse handling, feeding and grooming, then ride. We will give a short lesson, then play mounted games or take a trail ride to earn the Horse Lover's badge.  $25 per scout, minimum of 10 scouts or price adjustment. This program includes the testing for the Horse Lover's Badge.

GIRL SCOUTS

 

Sara is an approved GSCNC (Girl Scout Council of the National Capital Area) Vendor for horseback riding in Maryland

Daisy and Brownie Scouts can come to our barn for a fun two- hour course, We start off with a short safety lecture, farm tour and farm management lecture. The girls will then groom, tack, and then ride for approx. 45 minutes. After they ride they are given the chance to cool down and put their horse away. Cost is $25.00 per scout, minimum of 10 scouts.

Brownie Scouts can work on their Wild West Brownie Girl Scout Try-it Badge. In this two-hour course they will be able to complete requirement #5 - Learn about Horses - with the bonus of actually riding! Cost is $25.00 per scout, minimum 10 scouts.

Junior Scouts have the opportunity to to complete two badges in a two-hour course - the Horse Fan and Horse Rider Badges. We can cover requirements # 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 as a group for the Horse Fan Badge and requirements # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 for the Horse Rider Badge. Cost is $25.00 per scout, minimum 10 scouts.

Cadet Scouts
can earn their Horse Sense Badge in a two-hour course with a hands-on approach to learning about horses, including grooming, tacking up, and riding at the walk. Cost is $25.00 per scout, 10 scout minimum.


BOY SCOUTS

The Cub Scout Horseback Riding Belt Loop and Sports Pin can be completed in a two-hour course. We will complete all three requirements for the Belt Loop and 10 out of the 11 requirements for the Sports Pin. Cost is $25.00 per scout, minimum of 10 scouts.

The complete Horsemanship Merit Badge can also be completed at Kings Valley Stables! We offer  different ways for the Boy Scouts to earn this badge.

Option One:  An overnight camping trip - scouts will arrive one afternoon/early evening to set up camp, learn hands-on about evening stables management, have a riding lesson and spend the night. The next morning, start the day working on the Horsemanship work sheet. We begin at 8:00 a.m., learning morning feed, then ride in a part lesson, part trail ride.  have a quick lunch, then finish work sheets, pack and go home.  Requirements may need to be covered in two separate camp trips.   Cost is  $50.00 per scout, 10 scout minimum.

Option Two: Three Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Split up the work sheet and riding and get everything covered over the three-week time period. Cost is $200.00 per Scout, minimum 10 scouts.
